What Does Board Service Mean?
As a board member of Love in Action, you'll have important responsibilities:
Legal Duties:
-
Duty of Care - Attend meetings, stay informed, ask questions, and make thoughtful decisions for the organization
-
Duty of Loyalty - Put Love in Action's interests first and avoid conflicts of interest
-
Duty of Obedience - Make sure we follow our mission, bylaws, and all state and federal laws
-
Fiduciary Responsibility - Oversee the organization's finances, make sure money is managed responsibly, and help ensure Love in Action stays financially healthy
What This Looks Like:
-
Attend monthly board meetings
-
Help guide the organization's direction and strategy
-
Review budgets and financial reports (don't worry - we'll explain everything!)
-
Support fundraising efforts (There are many ways to do this, not just giving money.)
-
Act as an ambassador for Love in Action in the community
-
Help with special projects or events as needed
Time Commitment: Expect to dedicate approximately 8-10 hours per month, including meetings and any additional work.
Board service is a rewarding way to make a real impact. We know this might sound like a lot, but we provide orientation, training, and ongoing support to help you succeed in this role. You don't need to be an expert in everything, just committed and willing to learn.
