Mission
Love in Action is a faith-based nonprofit organization whose mission is to reach the unreached with the gospel of Jesus Christ. We partner with local, national, and international communities to bring relief to people who are in need of support and assistance with spiritual and physical needs while fulfilling the Great Commission of making disciples of all the nations.
Vision
Love in Action envisions a world where everyone experiences the love of Christ. We desire to see an end to homelessness and hunger, relief from suffering, and communities united in faith. Our vision is for the Body of Christ to actively live out the Great Commission, sharing the Gospel and bringing hope, healing, and lasting change to those in need.
Our Story
The origin of Love in Action begins with a desire to move beyond the walls of the church. Around 2008, Doris Lebby started with a group of mission-minded women within the Gospel Outreach Missions Department, meeting at The Ember in downtown Grand Forks and hosting monthly fellowships in local parks. These gatherings featured food and clothing giveaways, prayer stations, and medical assistance for anyone in need.
Ten years later, the group would incorporate as a nonprofit within North Dakota and move into their first building located at 414 University Ave. Still just a group of people wanting to spread the love of Christ, the organization would grow quickly and become a 501(c)(3) federally recognized organization in 2020.
What started as informal community outreach now serves nearly 100 guests daily, operating through private donations and partnerships with local churches and organizations like Panera Bread and the Salvation Army. After 5 years at 414 University Ave, Love in Action moved into their current expanded location at 818 University Ave, continuing their mission to reach the unreached with the Gospel of Jesus Christ through both spiritual and physical care.
